Evening Wear
Pittsburgh Penguins Gala Jumpsuit
An elevated eveningwear jumpsuit designed for the Pittsburgh Penguins Charity Gala 2025. Features a deep V-neckline, wide-leg silhouette, and asymmetrical gold lamé sleeve. Constructed from repurposed championship t-shirts and vintage Penguins memorabilia, transforming sports heritage into sustainable formalwear. Black and gold palette with rhinestone star accents for movement and light.
The Challenge
Design a formal piece for a charity gala that honors Pittsburgh Penguins heritage while standing apart in a black-tie setting.
Inspiration
Vintage championship t-shirts and team memorabilia — items with deep sentimental value but no wearable life left. The question became: how do you transform sports nostalgia into sustainable formalwear?
Design Development
I started with draping studies on the dress form, testing how the t-shirt graphics could be positioned for maximum visual impact. The asymmetrical gold lamé sleeve emerged from experimenting with contrast between the matte jersey and metallic fabric.
Construction
The jumpsuit is constructed from repurposed championship tees with a deep V-neckline and wide-leg silhouette. Rhinestone star accents were hand-applied to catch light during movement. The gold lamé sleeve was pattern-drafted as a separate piece to allow independent fitting.
The Result
Worn at the Pittsburgh Penguins Charity Gala 2025. The piece drew conversation all evening — exactly the response formalwear should provoke.
